Abstract
A Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is at the heart of modern analytical laboratories, and it supports management of sample and the associated data, automation, interface to other key systems and compliance with regulatory requirements. By enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity, a LIMS ultimately supports informed decision-making and improved overall outcomes.
Dsm-firmenich has leveraged a LIMS since decades but when the system became obsolete and not supported anymore, a project was initiated to replace it with a new, modern, global and fully validated LIMS. The presentation will provide an in-depth overview of this successful project which included the design, development and validation of the core system functionalities followed by phased rollouts across individual sites. Special attention will be given to the global harmonized approach, challenges and lessons learned during the configuration of Master Data and site rollouts. The harmonized collection of data enabled by the new LIMS has facilitated the development of effective dashboards, enhancing data accessibility and visibility.
We consider the successful implementation of this new LIMS as a foundational step towards further advancements, including the development and deployment of new functionalities to drive the continued digital transformation of our laboratories.
Our speaker

Federico Brianza
Federico, currently serving as Project Director in the Global Quality team at dsm-firmenich, holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Turin (Italy). He has spent more than 20 years leading and developing Analytical Chemistry laboratories and R&D teams in several pharma and biotech companies in Italy and Switzerland before joining dsm-firmenich in 2019. In all the different positions, Federico significantly contributed to the development and implementation of digital tools to help laboratory management and increase efficiencies. Since he joined dsm-firmenich, Federico fully focused his tasks to the management of the complex, global LIMS implementation project. With his strong belief in open communication and teamwork, Federico significantly contributes to building high effective teams that brings progress to life for the organizations.
