Abstract
Our journey begins historically and explains the reason why blockchain technology was invented in the first place. This leads us to the different trust models that are used and also why blockchain applies a certain trust model. Then we will get a brief introduction to blockchain technology and show an example of how blockchain can be used to exchange samples and related data.

Lorenz is a digital native who started a career in life science informatics 16 years ago. Over time, he has worked for many clients in various roles such as software developer, solution architect, business analyst and project manager, utilizing the latest technologies available on the market.
One of his tasks at wega is to track new emerging technologies and evaluate their use in the life science industry - for example AI and machine learning, distributed networks like block chain or peer-to-peer networks.
Besides researching new technologies, Lorenz also follows the latest agile project methodologies and applies them to develop and deliver high quality software to customers.
