Abstract

The journey towards laboratory informatics maturity in CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) development presents several challenges, including instrument integration and data availability from laboratories that often operate in pre-digital environments or digital islands. At Merck KGaA, the Biotech Development Centre in Switzerland aims to accelerate CMC development activities by, among other things, transforming a pre-digital laboratory environment into a fully digitally connected plant. The BOLT program, a cornerstone of this initiative, leverages an industry standard laboratory platform and a cutting-edge data integration system to revolutionize our CMC development processes. BOLT is meticulously designed to address a comprehensive set of requirements, ranging from lab execution to data management. This presentation will detail the journey of the BOLT program, from its inception and business establishment to the implementation of the transformative solutions.
